The Conservation of the Rare Plant Species Meadow Barley (Hordeum secalinum)
|
Client: Waterford County Council BEC Consultants have been involved in a number of projects involving this legally protected species. A project in Co. Waterford comprised one of the first times that genetic analysis had been used in conjunction with more conventional data to elucidate the population structure of a species in the local area. The high level of information provided allowed more informed conservation management decisions to be made and led to additional plants being established at the most protected site in the region. The project was run in close consultation with Waterford County Council, the RPS Group and the National Parks & Wildlife Service to ensure the conservation of this Meadow Barley in the Waterford region. Populations were monitored annually for five years. |
