Semi-natural Grassland Survey of Counties Roscommon and Offaly

Client: National Parks & Wildlife Service

In 2007 BEC Consultants carried out an ecological survey of 91 grassland sites in counties Roscommon and Offaly. This included collecting botanical data from 305 releves. The semi-natural grassland habitats within each site were digitally mapped using a Thales mobile mapper and presented in ArcView GIS. In addition, EU Annex I grassland habitats encountered during the project were surveyed and assessed. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to analyse the vegetation data and a classification that contained six vegetation types was proposed. All data were stored in an Access database and Turboveg.
