Balrath Wood Management Plan, Co Meath

Client: Balrath Wood Preservation Group

In 2007 BEC Consultants prepared a management plan for Balrath Wood which is an 'outdoor classroom' site in Co. Meath. Funding was provided by the Heritage Council, with the project being facilitated by Meath County Council. The plan established a framework for practical works to be carried out within the woodland over a five year period. The project comprised a review of existing data, a botanical survey of the wood and preparation of a habitat map. Detailed management zone maps were provided indicating the locations for and frequency of mowing. Areas of non-native trees were recommended for removal on a gradual basis.
