Client: EU Sixth Framework Programme
BioStrat is a Specific Support Action (SSA) funded by the EU Sixth Framework Programme which started on 1st of November 2006. The project, co-ordinated by the Institute of Ecology and Botany of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, involves 34 partners from 32 EU member states and aims to develop the EU Biodiversity Strategy by making use of existing support structures. BEC Consultants are the Irish representative to the BioStrat project and in this capacity represent Irish biodiversity research needs.
The two main aims of BioStrat are:
- To support the further development of a European Biodiversity Research Strategy
- To provide a mechanism for communication and information exchange between European researchers and policy makers.
These aims will be achieved through supporting the European Platform for Biodiversity Research Strategy (EPBRS) by providing research reviews and recommendations for biodiversity research needs in support of existing EU policy. BioStrat will also outreach to national biodiversity platforms and other European and international activities in the field of biodiversity research and will facilitate the further integration of biodiversity research within Europe.
