Client: Nicholas de Jong Associates
BEC Consultants carried out a habitat survey and ecological assessment for Coonagh, an area lying just outside of Limerick City that borders the River Shannon and which is dissected by the Limerick Southern Ring Road. The habitat map and accompanying recommendations were to assist in the development of a recreational framework plan that was being prepared for Limerick City Council.
The map provides information on the location and extent of all habitats within the area. The field survey was carried out according to the habitat descriptions given in Fossitt (2000) with notes made on sightings of mammals and birds and on the location of invasive species. Recommendations were made regarding future management and development, especially with regard to enhancing the value of habitats for both recreational purposes and the promotion of biodiversity.
The survey included the use of aerial photographs, field survey work and a literature review. The habitat map was jointly prepared by BEC Consultants and Nicholas de Jong Associates using both ArcGIS and CAD software.
