In 2013, BEC Consultants prepared a marine mammal Habitats Directive screening report in relation to a proposed slipway development on Dalkey Island, Co. Dublin. The project aimed at providing safer access to Dalkey Island for visitors. The site is located within Rockabill to Dalkey Island SAC, which is designated for the protection of harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) and the island also supports grey seals (Halichoerus grypus). The project included a kayak-based survey of seals utilising the island in the vicinity of the proposed slipway. A screening report was prepared and the development was approved. The slipway was completed and officially opened in 2014.
